Hi, I'm Irene! 👋

I'm Irene Yu and I'm the founder of the Skiplevel program and a fullstack software engineer. Over the past 7 years, I've worked with a wide range of companies including ad agencies, mid-sized startups, and large multi-national companies. I most recently worked at Amazon building highly scalable, and distributed web applications for custom ad solutions, ad platforms, and internal tools.

I started helping product managers become more technical during my time at Amazon. Product managers I worked with confided in me after technical discussions that they were having trouble following along, so I started tech mentoring them 1-on-1. I taught them fundamental technical concepts, helped them think through technical feasibility during the product ideation phase, and how to work with engineers to achieve their product roadmap goals. Both the product managers and I noticed a significant difference in their overall confidence and their ability to communicate technically and work with engineers. That's when I realized a lot of tech professionals want to become more technical but don't know how. I also realized with my expertise and experience as a software engineer and tech mentor, I can help bridge that technical knowledge gap.
